Beaumaris Yacht Club (BYC) was established on the Ricketts Point foreshore in 1950. Originally the club was started by a group of local sailors who were keen to begin their organised sailing in the local area. For the first few years the newly formed Club used a tent as their clubhouse. The current BYC clubhouse was built in 1954 by the founding members and has been extensively renovated and modified over the years. The Clubs facilities include a canteen, boat storage, large hall (available for hire), toilets and change room facilities and race control tower. BYC is a leading club for off-the-beach sailing on Port Philip Bay. Like all volunteer-based clubs BYC relies on its members to contribute to the continuing development and operation of the Club. This member involvement promotes a friendly culture and the continuation of the Club. During the sailing season the Club runs comprehensive junior and senior sail training programs and many Club members participate in district, state and national events in various classes.
